Nothing Special Series (Books #1-5) by A.E. Via
There was a special offer on this box-set, and since you can’t enter an MM book forum without being drowned by gushes of A.E. Via praise, I decided to take a chance. That’s despite me reading His Hart’s Command (Nothing Special #6) a while back and not being even remotely impressed. But I’m sad to say this purchase was a complete dud. And the series is – unfortunately – quite aptly named. There’s truly nothing special about these stories. Well, not in the positive sense anyway. These books each follow a different couple. It’s the guys in a special narcotics task force in Atlanta who all meet their very special…

Cold Hard Cash (Cold Hard Cash #1) by K.L. Hiers
So here’s an interesting book. It’s rated at 4.4 on Amazon, 4.15 on Goodreads and a whopping 4.8 on Bookbub. And yet, this is terrible storytelling. Awful really. It’s labelled as a dark, mafia romance. It’s about a young bisexual man who – not so wisely – borrows a quarter of a million dollars from the mob to pay for a lawyer to get his wrongfully sentenced father out of jail. Then, when not being able to pay his debt, he offers himself up as payment to the gay, mafia kingpin – Boss Cold. Yes it’s an incredibly cheezy plot-line. But no matter the story, talented writers can pull that…

The Difference Between by Leta Blake/Blake Moreno
The Difference Between is a dark as hell story. I picked it because I needed something to balance out all the sugar I’ve consumed lately, and also, it came highly recommended. However, I didn’t finish it. At 60% in, I gave up. I won’t waste my time reading stuff I don’t enjoy. Synopsis: The story is about Wade, a young, gay man, who’s kidnapped, tortured and sexually abused by an ex lover. After his rescue, the story goes on describing how a deeply traumatized Wade is trying to take back control of his life. By his side is his boyfriend/partner, Russ, who’s willing to do anything to help the man…

Zercy (The Nira Chronicles #2) by Kora Knight
This read had tentacles in it. Sentient tentacles that did unspeakable things. That’s more or less everything you need to know. Read it, don’t read it. Whatever. But if you do, please be prepared for lots of invasive, wiggly action. Technically, there’s nothing wrong with the book or the writing. But really, I just can’t get past all those appendages. 0

KrĂe Captivity (Nira Chronicles #1) by Kora Knight
This book belongs to the dicked-out-by-an-alien genre. The M/M edition. And call me kinky, but it was actually pretty entertaining. Blurb: A team of scientists crash on an alien planet they’re sent to investigate. Apparently without knowing the place is teeming with intelligent lifeforms. They’re quickly captured by some big-ass, purple aliens. Highly sexual ones. The mostly straight team of humans aren’t particularly enthusiastic about the aliens’ advances. But after luring the humans into eating some sort of alien viagra-fruit, well, things heat up. Obviously, this is not a book meant for everyone. But it works for open-minded people who enjoy Sci-Fi and supernatural reads. And also like to read…

Double Teamed by Van Cole
Double Teamed is a train wreck. And that’s putting it mildly. All I wanted was some juicy smut. Lots of explicit nooky and hot guys. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for. So a short story with an MMM mĂ©nage? Sign me up! But my god! This was crap straight through. Is it mean of me to be so blunt? Maybe. But this is another one of those books getting ridiculously inflated ratings on Amazon. I just want to save people from reading this disaster. It’s a story about a guy named Adam who meets up with his old bestie from High School. A bestie he also had…

Sharing Hailey by Samantha Ann King
So, I was in the mood for some mĂ©nage. And after reading another one of King’s books – Waiting for Ty – I decided to give this M/F/M story a try. And I wanted to like it. I really did. Sharing Hailey is genuinely well-written with a thought-through story-line. But I just couldn’t get into it. The story is about Hailey who’s been seriously attracted to two of her brother’s friends for years. Just after breaking up with her boyfriend, she goes to Hawaii on vacation with her family – and her crushes Mark and Tony. Needless to say, things get hot in Hawaii. But then Hailey’s abusive ex shows…

Best Women’s Erotica of the Year, Volume 5, edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel
This is an anthology with bite-sized erotic stories meant for women, set to be released in December this year. The stories are all very well written and there’s a vast array of erotic tastes represented. Which is perhaps the problem. I enjoyed less than half of the stories. And some of them I found even nasty. But I suppose that’s the trouble with trying to please everyone. In doing so, nobody gets what they want. I don’t consider my taste in erotica to be vanilla. But even so, there were several off-putting stories. From this collection, I’ve learned that I don’t like men wearing lingerie, I don’t find lesbian encounters…

Sensation Fantasies 3 by Kimberly Knight
Sensation Fantasies 3 is the newest release in a supposedly hot and steamy series by Kimberly Knight. I write ‘supposedly’ because this was probably the least steam I’ve encountered in a book that claims to be all about the sexytimes. Don’t get me wrong, there were nudy scenes. There were different constellations of body parts connecting with other body parts. But it was all so technical, without feeling. So, a great big dud really. There are three books in the series and the same blurb is used for all three (I suppose that should have been a warning sign). It goes on about a highly exclusive and secret sex club,…

Vicious Tease and Vicious Looks by Loki Renard
These two Vicious books – Vicious Tease and Vicious Looks – are supposedly Dark Erotica and BDSM. And yes, they were indeed a bit dark. I’m not so sure about the erotica part though. That’s obviously my personal preferences talking though. To each their own and all that. I started out with Vicious Tease which is a very short prequel to Vicious Looks. And I was sufficiently intrigued as to go ahead with the full length (but still short) novel. Vicious Looks is the first of the series Vicious City which so far consists of four installments not counting the prequel. Vicious Tease is told from the viewpoints of the characters…
