Safe (Veterans of Callenburg #1) by Taylor McNiff

Wow. This read. It wrecked me and put me back together again. So much feeling. It’s excruciatingly tragic, and doesn’t hold back on – quite honestly – sickening details. But there’s also hope and love and a happy ending. Synopsis: Oliver – Olly – is a victim of sex trafficking, while Huxley Scott – Huck – is a police officer. The two meet during Huck’s patrol one night, and afterwards Huck can’t get Olly off his mind. It’s apparent to Huck that Olly’s trapped in a dangerous situation, and Huck wants to help. But Olly doesn’t trust easily and is reluctant to reveal the truth to Huck. Meanwhile, Olly’s circumstances…

The Offering (Wolves of Wereduin #1) by Rosary Deville

Right. So. I might have a bit of a soft spot for MM shifter reads. Or, more correctly, they’re a guilty pleasure of mine. And then I saw The Offering recommended. I read the blurb, I read the warnings, and I still bought it. Maybe I shouldn’t have. Anyway. The story takes place in a universe where completely different rules and morals than our own apply. It’s truly the world of the strong. The weak are used, enslaved, or even outright killed. It’s also a world where, among the wolves, you’re either born to be a dominant or a submissive. Pretty crappy odds for the submissives in other words. In…

    Bad Judgment by Sidney Bell

This book is a gem. It was so much more than I expected and an emotional ride for sure. I knew going in that it would have a strong hurt-comfort theme and also contain some triggers such as domestic abuse and sexual assault. But that still didn’t prepare me for the ups and downs of this story. Let’s just say I felt so much during this read. Which is pretty much the highest praise you could ever give a book. Synopsis: Brogan Smith works in private security, and has just started a new assignment – guarding one of the higher-ups of a weapons manufacturer who’s been receiving death threats. It’s…

The Difference Between by Leta Blake/Blake Moreno

The Difference Between is a dark as hell story. I picked it because I needed something to balance out all the sugar I’ve consumed lately, and also, it came highly recommended. However, I didn’t finish it. At 60% in, I gave up. I won’t waste my time reading stuff I don’t enjoy. Synopsis: The story is about Wade, a young, gay man, who’s kidnapped, tortured and sexually abused by an ex lover. After his rescue, the story goes on describing how a deeply traumatized Wade is trying to take back control of his life. By his side is his boyfriend/partner, Russ, who’s willing to do anything to help the man…

Interrupt (A Collar For His Brat #5) by R.J. Moray

Coming August 29 This is a bit of a tricky one for me to review. You see, the story is quite a bit out of my comfort zone, but I’m also intrigued as all get out meaning I can’t stay away. So, tricky indeed. Synopsis: Interrupt is the 5th part of a serial featuring Ewan and Nate, a masochist and a sadist, who are trying to set the boundaries defining their relationship. So this is obviously anything but vanilla. Ewan has a hard time trusting anyone, let alone a Dom, because of past trauma. Nate on the other hand is terrified of pushing too far and hurting Ewan (more than…

Debug (A Collar for His Brat #4) by R.J. Moray

Coming March 27 A Collar For His Brat is M/M BDSM erotica and a bit (a lot) more hard-core than I’m used to. Debug is the 4th part in a serial and the first of ‘season two’. Debug continues the story of Ewan’s and Nate’s relationship. Which is quite complicated. They’re not quite Dom and Sub, but they’re more than Top and Bottom. And Ewan is most definitely a brat. They’re trying to find a balance between being both boss-employee and Dom-brat, but keeping the two parts of their lifes separate is hard. Especially since Nate is new to the whole relationship deal and Ewan won’t allow himself to fully…

    Broken Knight by L.J. Shen

I loved this book. And hated it a bit too. It was just so overwhelming. An emotional roller-coaster of epic proportions. All the feelings, all the time. Exhausting in the very best way. In other words, this is an awesome read! Broken Knight tells the story of Luna Rexroth and Knight Cole. They’re neighbours, best friends and have loved each other as long as they can remember. But even though they both also feel love of the romantic variety towards each other, the universe – and their own self-destructive tendencies – seem intent on keeping them apart. Luna is the good, shy girl. A selective mute since early childhood, she’s…

    Phoenix by Cole Denton

Phoenix, the third book in the Trial by Fire series, is dark AF. Just wanted to make that clear right from the start. This series isn’t dark in the sense that there is a seriously fucked up relationsship between the two main characters – which is often the case for dark reads. It’s dark due to the sheer amount and level of sexual abuse described. That being said, it’s an incredibly intriguing story. And in all honesty, Phoenix is probably the book in the series with the least amount of horrid descriptions of abuse, and when comparing with the first two, it’s definitely the most easy-going and hopeful. It’s also…

Vicious Tease and Vicious Looks by Loki Renard

These two Vicious books – Vicious Tease and Vicious Looks – are supposedly Dark Erotica and BDSM. And yes, they were indeed a bit dark. I’m not so sure about the erotica part though. That’s obviously my personal preferences talking though. To each their own and all that. I started out with Vicious Tease which is a very short prequel to Vicious Looks. And I was sufficiently intrigued as to go ahead with the full length (but still short) novel. Vicious LooksΒ is the first of the series Vicious City which so far consists of four installments not counting the prequel. Vicious Tease is told from the viewpoints of the characters…

    Untouchable by Sam Mariano

Untouchable is categorized as a dark romance. And no matter what you may think of it, it sure evokes plenty of feelings. Most of which aren’t of the fuzzy, warm variety. If I had to describe it with just a few words it would be disturbing, twisted and fascinating. But I get ahead of myself. The story is set in a small Texas town and the main characters are seniors at the local High School. Zoey Ellis is the epitome of a good girl; she follows the rules, has good grades and is involved in church activities. Then there’s Carter Mahoney, the star quarterback, the golden boy who can do…
