Ethan & Jag Destroy the World by Maz Maddox

Release Date: October 26th This book was a delight. Quirky, amusing and sweet all-around. Apart from all the references to blood, guts and gore that is, but that’s what you get when one of the MCs is a demon. The book is a two-parter, where the first part – Demon All the Way – was previously published, and the second part – Ethan and Jag Destroy the World – is an expansion and continuation of the first story. To me, both parts were brand new, though, and story-wise they melded together perfectly. If Maddox hadn’t explained the division in the preface I wouldn’t have noticed. As all of Maddox’s earlier…

Soul Eater (Monstrous #1) by Lily Mayne

I thought this was a very original story, portraying a post-apocalyptic world in a fascinating new way. I enjoyed reading it and I’d recommend it to others. But there were also a few things, mostly about the story structure and plot, that just didn’t make sense to me. So, I’m a bit conflicted. However, there’s no denying it’s an intriguing world Mayne has created. The story takes place in the US, twenty years after “monsters” spilled into the world through a rift between our world and another plane/dimension. People seek shelter in crowded towns along the the coast, and the rest of the country becomes the Waste – the depopulated…

Dragon Ever After (Here Be Dragons #1) by Louisa Masters

This read was a pure and utter delight! Just the funny, quirky and ridiculous story I needed. So, yes, I loved it. Technically, this is a new series – even though I believe there’s only one more book planned. But this is a spin-off from the Hidden Species series, and the only thing that really distinguishes it from that series is that the overall story arc was concluded with Sorcerers Always Satisfy. Therefore, I wouldn’t call Dragon Ever After a stand-alone. You won’t be able to appreciate the supporting characters, or the world building, unless you’ve read Hidden Species first. Synopsis: Percy, the retired leader of the Community of Species…

Ellis Harper’s Shot in the Dark by K. Sterling

I loved this story. I devoured it in only two sittings because the plot was just too delicious for words. Synopsis: Ellis is a closeted guy who hooks up – anonymously and in the dark – with a guy during a wedding he’s invited to as his friend’s date. His best friend, Alli, who’s newly pregnant and might have blurted out that Ellis was the father of her child. To say things spiral from there is an understatement. Ellis can’t forget about the hot mystery man, and they decide to continue seeing each other even after the wedding weekend is over. But meeting in the dark and keeping their identities…

Prince’s Master (Calluvia’s Royalty #4) by Alessandra Hazard

For quite a while, I really thought Hazard had blown it with this book. The story didn’t sweep me away in the same way the first three books did. But it’s worth hanging in there, it really is. Synopsis: Eridan was rescued as a child from an assassination attempt and has been raised in High Hronthar by an order of telepathic monks. He’s unaware of his true identity as the second prince of the Fifth Grand Clan. He only knows that he’s been claimed as an apprentice by the most powerful man in the Order, Castien Idhron. Castien doesn’t deal in feelings. He’s manipulative, without scruples and he will use…

Sorcerers Always Satisfy (Hidden Species #4) by Louisa Masters

Release Date: June 3rd I’m so conflicted right now. And I have sooo many feelings. This is the last book in the series, meaning I have some grieving to get through. But there’s also some what-the-eff-happeneds that I need to come to terms with. Fortunately, there will be a spin-off. Which is a good thing. Apart from Percy’s story, I need Dustin’s. So bad. Synopsis: This is David’s story. The sorcerer who’s always kept to the background in the previous Hidden Species books. And it’s Caolan’s story, the elf who appeared from another dimension at the end of book 3. Caolan is immediately smitten with David, but David has a…

King & Queen (RELIC #3) by Maz Maddox

Release date: May 21st This was such a delightful read! Without a doubt the best RELIC so far. It had everything. Fun, engaging characters? Check. Fast paced action involving fossil thieves and dino-nappers? Check. Quirkiness galore, drag queens, and filthy shenanigans? Check, check, and check. Synopsis: As a member of RELIC, Royal the dinosaur shifter is sent to check out a new fossil excavation, in the event of a new shifter being awakened from hibernation. Blaise is visiting the site for entirely different reasons involving a camera and a live stream. Neither of them expected to stumble upon fossil thieves. Or being chased by an angry Giganotosaurus. It must be…

Bell, Book and Scandal (Bedknobs and Broomsticks #3) by Josh Lanyon

I love, love, love this series! As soon as the pre-ordered e-book appeared on my Kindle, I immediately gave up what I was doing and dove into this entirely wonderful, witchy world. It’s delightful and quirky in the best way possible. Cosmo and John have that infuriating dynamic going that is so addictive. At least the way Lanyon portrays it. I honestly don’t understand why I find it so fascinating really, but I do. The story is exclusively told from Cosmo’s point of view, while John is the one that holds most of the power in their relationship. This imbalance between them was there from the first book, but the…

Tell Me It’s Real (At First Sight #1) by T.J. Klune

T.J. Klune is a true master of over-the-top and entirely inappropriate humour. I adore it, and I snort-laughed so much. It wasn’t pretty. However, I listened to the audio book, with the equally fabulous Michael Lesley narrating. And I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have enjoyed this story half as much if it hadn’t been for his excellent voice acting. Because even if I think Klune is a brilliant writer and the king of immature jokes (of which I’m obviously a fan), if I’d have read this book myself I would probably thought it too much. Too exaggerated. Too silly and fantastical. The combination of Klune and Lesley, though? Effing spectacular!…

Sink or Swim (RELIC #2) by Maz Maddox

Release Date: March 19 Two dinosaur shifters go under cover as an engaged couple on a luxury cruise ship in order to lay their hands on some stolen dinosaur fossils, that’s the premise of this book. Baha is a Spinosaurus and Jackson is some kind of gigantic, flying fur-lizard. Oh, and they’re gay and secretly has the hots for one another. When they’re in their human forms. That feels important to clarify. So Baha has one personality trait, and that’s grumpy. Meanwhile, Jackson is a sunshine, glass-half-full, kind of guy who isn’t deterred by Baha’s shitty personality in the least. Baha is a member of RELIC and gets the assignment…
