After too many cocktails, I ask him to be my baby’s father. In my defense, it’s been a rough couple of months. Seeing Matteo Rossi again after fourteen years has done a number on my emotions. Love Lessons (Brooklyn #7) by Sarina Bowen
Expected release date: July 12, 2022 You could say that this is a perfect summer read. It’s light-hearted romance with a sizable part of the story taking place in Italy with sun, wine, delicious food, and shopping as a back-drop. There were definite shopping montage vibes Ă la Pretty Woman to this story, but without the prostitutes of course. Synopsis: This is the story of Ian Crikey – an enforcer for the Brooklyn Bruisers and lover of sweats and worn-out t-shirts – and Vera – a fashion stylist who takes her job very seriously. After an unfortunate incident involving a loud party and an arrest, Ian needs an image makeover.…

Wild Like Us (Like Us #8) by Krista Ritchie and Becca Ritchie
A 4.5 star read! Obviously, since this is book no. 8 in a series and I’m still here for it, I’m a dedicated fan. However, I have reservations. So, so, so many reservations. But first, the good things. Apart from high-quality everything (writing, story-telling, world-building, characters and yada yada), what I most adore about the series and this book, is the way fame is depicted. It’s not glitz and glamour, private jets and extravagant living which is pretty much standard in every other “millionaire story”. Although – obviously – the famous ones are financially independent. No, instead it’s all the negative aspects of fame. The lack of privacy. The media…

The Worst Guy by Kate Canterbary
I loooved this book. So much. Sebastian Stremmel is the very definition of grumpy, and the heroine – Sara Shapiro – is as messy and damaged as any of Canterbary’s characters have ever been. So yum! Synopsis: One perpetually scowling trauma surgeon gets in to it with one (usually) people-pleasing, good girl plastic surgeon. The end result is conflict management therapy for the both of them. Eight weeks with forced proximity can’t possibly end well. That they end up having hate sex after their second session doesn’t mean anything. Right? I’ve been waiting a long time for Stremmel’s story, but I was still surprised at how much I loved him.…

Boyfriend (Moo U #0) by Sarina Bowen
Release date: October 12th This was exactly the kind of fuzzy, feel-good story I needed. It’s been a while since I read college romance, but right now I can’t think of a reason why. Because this story was adorable and I loved it. Synopsis: Abbi is a full-time student while working as a server at the Biscuit. Weston is a hockey-star, Biscuit regular, and heart-throb of the Moo U campus. When Abbi realize that it’s Weston who’s posted the flyer offering himself up as a Thanksgiving date / fake boyfriend for a night, she can’t help herself. Of course she hires him to come along to her step-dad’s Thanksgiving dinner.…

Waylaid (True North #8) by Sarina Bowen
This is such an awesome read. 4.5 stars! And it intrigued me from the very start. Synopsis: This is the story of Daphne Shipley and Rickie – Dylan Shipley’s roommate/landlord. And there’s so much happening here. Rickie has suffered a mysterious injury leaving him with partial amnesia. Daphne has a psycho ex that’s threatening her and has forced her to relocate to another university. So, naturally, Daphne’s hesitant to trust again and Rickie has issues for miles because of his amnesia. Their growing affection and Rickie’s persistence is just super sweet reading. I must admit, I was really impatient for them to solve their respective “problems” (a.k.a. getting revenge and recovering memories),…

The Belle and the Beard by Kate Canterbary
Release Date: April 23rd This is an extremely well-written and contemplative story. And, exactly as was the case with Canterbary’s previous book, the somewhat whimsical title doesn’t actually reflect the heaviness of the read. Because this is heavy reading even if it is a romance too. I’ve always admired Canterbary’s ability to precisely describe, with just a sentence or two, my own familiar yet unarticulated feelings. I guess that’s what many talented authors are about, but with her books it never fails, here and there I’d always had to pause at a few particularly insightful sentences just to take it all in. And I’m equally impressed each time. However, The…

Bombshells (Brooklyn Bruisers #8) by Sarina Bowen
Release date: April 13 As usual, I enjoyed the heck out of Sarina Bowen’s writing. And this was such an easy read. The story just pulled me in and I didn’t mind being swept away at all. I really, really liked the fact that Sylvie was a professional athlete. She was so strong and capable and trying to make a name for herself in a sport which is mostly viewed as a male one. That was beyond awesome. Synopsis: This is the story of Sylvie – a hockey goalie who’s earned a spot in a newly founded female hockey team in Brooklyn, and Anton – reformed player and also a…

Cowboy (Busy Bean #2) by L.B. Dunbar
Release date: March 1 Cowboy is a super-cute, well-written romance that will have sooo many people go all swoon-y. It’s also a book that just didn’t click with me. Objectively, this book has just about every ingredient I crave in a good story; a spunky heroine, a hot hero and some seriously steamy sexytimes. And then there’s the little surprise. Yet, for some reason, I had trouble connecting with the characters. Synopsis: Cowboy is the story of Scarlett and Bull. Scarlett gets fired from her job the same day she discovers her husband’s been cheating on her. When going off to Vermont to get away from it all, she meets…

Sweetheart (Busy Bean #1) by Sarah Mayberry
Release Date: March 1 This is a wonderful little story and a cute, low-angst romance. However, there’s a trigger that I was unaware of before starting, namely mental illness in a family member. And I can’t honestly say I would have read this book had I known that in advance. The romance-part in itself is low-angst and super sweet. But I can say with certainty that this story will not be perceived as such by those who have personal experience of a loved one with a mental disorder. Synopsis: This is the story of Haley, newly hired barista at the Busy Bean, and Beck, the hot lumberjack who roasts the…
