Sink or Swim (RELIC #2) by Maz Maddox

Release Date: March 19 Two dinosaur shifters go under cover as an engaged couple on a luxury cruise ship in order to lay their hands on some stolen dinosaur fossils, that’s the premise of this book. Baha is a Spinosaurus and Jackson is some kind of gigantic, flying fur-lizard. Oh, and they’re gay and secretly has the hots for one another. When they’re in their human forms. That feels important to clarify. So Baha has one personality trait, and that’s grumpy. Meanwhile, Jackson is a sunshine, glass-half-full, kind of guy who isn’t deterred by Baha’s shitty personality in the least. Baha is a member of RELIC and gets the assignment…

Of Secrets and Wolves (Winsford Shifters #1) by Alice Winters

No. Just no. Alice Winters – universally loved apparently – is just not meant for me. I read How to Vex a Vampire, VCR: Vampire Related Crimes (that everybody raves about) and I didn’t like it. But I thought I’d give her a second chance with Of Secrets and Wolves because sources that are (usually) reliable were practically gushing over it. This book is an MM-shifter story. And I usually love those! They’re my no. 1 guilty pleasure. But I just can’t make myself appreciate the writing. To me, this read displays all the exact same characteristics that I found so hard to like with VCR: One main character acts…

Claw of Exile by J.K. Jones

Release date: February 20 I’m super conflicted about this book. So this review will have two distinct parts; One where I praise the story, and one where I criticize the writing. I thought the premise for this book was amazing and I loved the storyline. I was sucked in from the very first page (it would be hard not to, it was a scene with Ryu getting railed by an unknown Alpha after all). And what’s even more, the plot held my interest to the very end. Which, quite frankly, is a minor miracle considering the quality of the writing. Anyway. Ryu is an omega, ostracized from his clan and…

Cry Wolf (Big Bad Wolf #5) by Charlie Adhara

Right now, I’m feeling sort of numb and a bit lost. Book hangover doesn’t begin to describe how I’m feeling. It’ll probably be a year until the next installment in this series is released and I won’t know what to do with myself in the meantime. So yeah. This was a spectacular story. And right now, when I’m in the process of returning to reality, Cry Wolf feels like the best in the series yet. With some time and a bit of distance I might re-assess, but considering I re-read the first four books in preparation for the Cry Wolf release, it’s not likely. Synopsis: Cooper and Park are supposed…

Meet Cute: The Hedgehog Incident (The Parasol Protectorate 0.75) by Gail Carriger

I loooved this little novella! It’s the story of the first meeting between Alexia Tarabotti – preternatural – and Lord Conall Maccon – werewolf Alpha of the London pack. It’s delicious and hilarious, and even covered some of the overlap with the Finishing School series. The hedgehog incident has been mentioned previously in the PP-series and I was delighted to read the details now. Apart from hedgehogs, there’s also a grumpy and accidentally naked werewolf, and of course our heroine Alexia who gets an eyeful of well-muscled werewolf buttocks. So, this is a read for Parasol Protectorate lovers. Sure, I guess you could start with this story before diving into…

    Soulmates by Liv Rancourt

Release date: January 14th This story was definitely a grower. It took a while, but the more I read, the more intrigued and delighted I became. Also, it’s probably the most believably organic formation of a threesome I’ve ever encountered. Kudos to Rancourt! Synopsis: Trajan is a 175 year old vampire on the verge of committing suicide by sun due to grief over his dead lover Connor. But when he is tasked by his sire to keep a young alpha werewolf safe for a week, he’s instantly distracted from his dark thoughts. Not only is David an outrageous and unapologetic twink just looking for some fun, but almost as soon…

Rome and Jules by Tara Lain

Sooo. This story was an unusual one. At least for me. It’s an M/M shifter story, which isn’t the unusual part, but it’s actually a re-telling of Romeo and Juliet. Meaning it’s an enemies-to-lovers, secret marriage, and rival families kind of story, all wrapped up in some … fur. Synopsis: This is the story of Rome and Jules, both sons to their respective pack’s Alphas. Rome is the golden boy, his father’s hope for a worthy heir. He’s also secretly gay, hiding that fact because of the bigotry of his pack. Jules, on the other hand is out. And about to be married off to an unsavory character in exchange…

Demons Do It Better (Hidden Species #1) by Louisa Masters

Wow. This was just an amazingly fun and endearing story. I just loved it. And I knew I’d love it from the very first page, and I’m not just saying that to try to make a point. In the first chapter, I highlighted 5 different sections. For me, that’s practically unheard of. So yes. This was definitely a 5-star read to me. Synopsis: Sam is just a regular (sort of) guy, working as an office admin. But being bored out of his mind with his current job, he’s applied to a new admin position at a place that in the ad guarantees adventure. As it turns out, it’s at the…

Timber Pack Chronicles by Rob Colton

Now this is some juicy, M/M smut! And not only that, it’s juicy smut combined with my favourite trope; wolf shifter romance. However, you should know that even though I do love me some hot, man-on-man action, this story has so much more going for it than hide-the-salami. Because Timber Pack Chronicles has this new, fresh take on the whole wolf-shifter genre. Or maybe it’s actually more of a return to the classic werewolf story roots. The world is one where wolf-shifters are unknown to society in general. A bite from a wolf can turn a human into one, but that’s strictly forbidden. It’s also risky since a bitten human…

Dire Warning (Blackwood Pack #1) by Mary Rundle

This is the second book in a row that I didn’t finish. So it’s safe to say that Dire Warning was a disappointment. I was intrigued by the blurb, as the M/M, wolf-shifter fan that I am. But the writing was so poor I couldn’t make myself continue. So, why review a bad read? Well, to warn off others of course. This book has a 4.2 star rating on Amazon, 4.5 stars on Bookbub and 3.9 on Goodreads. And that’s just not right. The storyline as such was alright, the cover pic was fun and hot. But the writing was a total mess. And when I – someone with English…
