The Belle and the Beard by Kate Canterbary

Release Date: April 23rd This is an extremely well-written and contemplative story. And, exactly as was the case with Canterbary’s previous book, the somewhat whimsical title doesn’t actually reflect the heaviness of the read. Because this is heavy reading even if it is a romance too. I’ve always admired Canterbary’s ability to precisely describe, with just a sentence or two, my own familiar yet unarticulated feelings. I guess that’s what many talented authors are about, but with her books it never fails, here and there I’d always had to pause at a few particularly insightful sentences just to take it all in. And I’m equally impressed each time. However, The…

    New Book from Kate Canterbary!

If you find yourself publicly humiliated, out of work, and unemployable at 35—not to mention newly single—here’s how to salvage your life: 1. Run away. Seriously, there’s no shame in disappearing. Go to that rustic old cottage your aunt left you. Look out for the colony of bats and the leaky roof. Oh, and the barrel-chested neighbor with shoulders like the broad side of a barn. Definitely look out for him. 2. Stop wallowing and stay busy. It doesn’t matter whether you know how to bake or fix things around the house. Do it anyway. Dust off your southern hospitality and feed that burly, bearded neighbor some pecan pie. 3.…

Missing In Action by Kate Canterbary

Coming March 30! Missing In Action is a beautiful M/M romance by one of my favourite authors. It’s the love-story of Wes and Tom who are both part of the fabulous Walsh universe Kate Canterbary has created. This book isn’t technically a part of the Walsh family series, but to fully appreciate Missing In Action you absolutely need the full backstory that the previous books provide. The main characters are two very different men. There’s Wes, a hunky, broody, undercover agent with an affinity to meat-cleavers who also happens to be closeted. At least to his parents. Then there’s Tom. A health obsessed, fashion conscious perfectionist with slight OCD who…

    Rough Sketch by Kate Canterbary

Rough Sketch by Kate Canterbary was a bit of a surprise. Mostly because I hadn’t realized it was only a novella. It’s a very intense and raunchy story taking place in Canterbary’s Talbot’s Cove universe. It’s very high on the smut-scale (love it!) but it also has a surprisingly serious and contemplative undertone. The story describes the first few days of Neera’s and Gus’ passionate relationship. Neera was first introduced in Fresh Catch while Gus is new to the series. Gus is an artist, a free spirit and a wanderer. Neera – an ambitious and highly disciplined executive – is Gus’ opposite in every way. They irritate and frustrate each…

    The Walshes by Kate Canterbary

I’ve mostly been re-reading old favourites this holiday. There’s something so very comforting about snuggling up in the couch with a blanket and re-acquainting oneself with familiar characters in guaranteed HEAs. Especially during christmas. So, since I haven’t read anything new in a few weeks, I’ll just recommend one of my favorite re-reads instead. The smut-factor of this series is high – which is basically a must for a re-read if you ask me – and the smut-quality is superb. World-building and character development are outstanding and there’s guaranteed laughter and tears both. The series about The Walshes by Kate Canterbary is a collection of eight books, each focusing on…

    Far Cry by Kate Canterbary

Far Cry is the newest release from Kate Canterbary and the third book in her Talbot’s Cove series. And it’s amazing. I might be overly emotional from PMS, but either way, Far Cry gave me all the feels. I laughed, I cried and I hurt with the leading characters. Canterbary delivers as always. In this story, you get to follow the awesome and altogether kick-ass Brooke-Ashley Markham. Beautiful, wicked smart, outspoken and more or less a force of nature. But she’s also exhausted. Exhausted from taking care of her aging father suffering from dementia. From keeping up the appearance of perfection. From trying to handle everything life throws at her…

The Magnolia Chronicles by Kate Canterbary

The full name of this altogether yummy read is The Magnolia Chronicles: Adventures in modern dating. It’s the latest novel from Kate Canterbary, and as always she delivers and then some. As the title suggests, the story is about Magnolia and her, sometimes unfortunate but always hilarious, attempts at meeting The One. With a notoriously bad track record with men, Magnolia is about to give up when her mother makes her promise to give dating a real shot for one full year. And as Magnolia tries to navigate the pitfalls of online dating, she stumbles across, not one but two, drool-worthy guys that both seem to be potential Mr. Rights.…
